Hi All

I have a client with W98Se and Office XP standard
All of a sudden his office applications load very slowly - once they are loaded the spreadsheets and documents load quickly. Hi Outlook Express is also running very slowly.

He is completely up to date with his Virus scanner - Sophos - and we have scanned his disks just in case of a virus.

I have got him to remove any unnecessary process running in the task list.

I ran the system file checker utility.

For Outlook express i extracted the pstores.exe and other associated files from the Cabs. I also got him to compress his outlook folders.

I got him to scan and defrag his disk. He has lots of free disk space.

I dont really want to reinstall from scratch.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Paul

Check to see what is in the Office startup folders. Also, delete the normal.dot. Office will recreate it.

Problem solved - by perseverance

Tried to reinstall W98 - came up with errors while copying files

Discovered over 7000 .tmp files in windows folder (seemingly caused by office xp)

Deleted these files

Once again reinstalled W98 - kept coming up with exception errors

After much removing programs and not loading programs at startup I eventually got it to reinstall and the all of my programs worked at there normal speed.

So now I am happy

thanks for all of the advice

Paul
