guys, i hope you can help me..i was reading some mails when suddenly my PC shutdowned..after my PC rebooted, my identities were lost..and when i tried creating a new one, it just can't be done..with that, i cannot access my contacts, mails, etc. so i cannot retrieve them through OE BAckup wizard since i am now planning to reformat my harddisk..but it would be better if you can tell me what to do so that i need not to reformat my hard disk and use my OE again..thanks..

What OS are you using?

Cheers,
Brodie

my OS is Windows 98..thanks..i'll be waiting for your aid..

Your mail files should be in Windows -> Application data -> Identities -> (long string of characters) -> Microsoft -> Outlook Express -> Mail -> (list of files including among others, Inbox.dbx.

Check your files are there and that their dates agree with your last useage. If they are not the current files, then search your hard drive for Inbox.dbx, it's quite possible they may be somewhere else.

Once you have found the right set of files, then go to Tools -> Options -> Maintenance -> Store folder and change it to point to the folder with the correct set of files.

Cheers,
Brodie

hello there, brodie, thanks a lot..but i forgot to tell you that my main problem now is that i cannot execute my Outlook Express..everytime i run it, the identity login window pops up..and since no identity is found, I tried creating a new one, but as what i said, it can't be done..so, what should i do? again, thanks..

since, i cant open my OE, i also cant run Backup Wizard. Everytime i tried to execute OE Backup Wizard, an error message pops up saying, "The wizard cannot locate Outlook Express Data. Please run Outlook Express at least once.

Hmmm.... you've got me there - anyone else have any advice for jinggoy?

Cheers,
Brodie

Hey Jinggoy,
I think I am having the same problem as you. I lost two identies but I still have my main identity. Whenever I try to add the new identies back, it just doesn't add. And when it asks me if I want to switch to the other identity - outlook express just closes and doesn't come back up. Is this what is happening to you? Also, Microsoft Word stopped working for me. I have Windows ME, let me know if you figure out what is not making this work.

Thanks,
