Hi Guys,

I have a client running a WorkGroup environment, each with thier own e-mail client connecting to a mail server we have on site.

The mail is then downloaded and stored localy on ths system.

One of the users has told me this morning that a bunch of his mails have disapeared from thier folders, they have a list of about 40 sub-folders inside thier inbox and a stack of rules that direct mail to the correct one.

4 Sub-Folders, all situated next to one another have lost all of thier content, all the content is recent so probably hasnt been archived, the mail is also not in the deleted files folder.

I have searched the entire inbox for mail from that particular contact and it returns no reaults, so they dont appear to be anywhere else on his system.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rob

Are you sure the messages in those folders isn't hidden?

Select one of those folders. Then click on View > Current View, and make sure Show all mail is selected.

Help! I've fallen and I can't reach my beer.

You could try renaming the folders.dbx to something like folders.dbx.old That file holds all the info for directory structure in outlook express. Alot of times the directory will become corrupt. I would recommend to all your users to move anything that they have stored as a sub folder to the inbox out. The default folders Outlook Express creates are the first ones to become corrupted.

Have you looked in your
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{E2A85E62-0FE9-4C9A-9F29-AB5A6408CF0C}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
folder and maybe imported the contents to a blank Outlook Express and see what appears?

Morning Guys,

Thanks for the Suggestions.

Firstly i have checked the view properties and they are how they should be so they dont appear to be hidden.

My Suspicion is that they maybe corrupted, but i'll try to test those other things to see what happends.

One thing i forgot to mention which might be important, is when on exiting OE recently they've been requested by a prompt to 'Compact' the mail, this is somthing i've not come accross before, any ideas?

Thanks,

Rob
