Outlook Express Corrupt Files?

Hello Again
I have a user who is running OE5 on Windows2000 he had several large emails sent to him 8mg each when he trys to delete them from the inbox they will not delete nor will other items in the inbox , so I copy the contents of the inbox to a folder and then went to explore and delete the inbox.dbx folder to allow OE5 to create a new inbox. I still cannot delete these emails from the folder they currently reside in the system just sits there no hour glass or nothing. ANY IDEAS
