I have AOL for my e-mail, and I have the free AOL, which is internet only. That is, I use MS Explorer and go to to get my e-mail. I don't use AOL's browser. I am running XP Pro.

If I am viewing another website, and click on an e-mail address, up pops Outlook Express, with the address in the "To" space. How do I configure this to work with AOL?

There is a way to modify the registry to do some of what you want, but before I mention that, what mail options do you have in Internet Options, Programs, E-mail?

OK, this registry edit should make IE open at aol webmail when you click on a mailto: link. You will still need to sign in as normal. If the mailto: link contains subject information it will not be included as it would with a normal mail client. Save the text below as webmail.reg, then merge it with your windows registry.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell]
@="webmail"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\webmail]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\webmail\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\iexplore.exe\" [URL unfurl="true"]http://webmail.aol.com"[/URL]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\webmail\ddeexec]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\webmail\ddeexec\Application]
@="iexplore"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\webmail\ddeexec\Topic]
@="System"
