I have Win 98 Se loaded, open OE 6 and try to send ANY E-Mail and get the error "unable to send mail" "an error has occurred".

So far, I have made sure the setup was correct for the Servers, E-Mail address and all, they are ALL OK. I have also set up OE to not show all the folders and such, gone into "offline" mode and compacted the folders.dbx file. To no avail... Is the folder corrupt? Do I need to create a new E-Mail account to get away from using the old one and then import the old E-Mail? I am also unable to get into the Outbox, says it in unavailable and that the disk may be full, it isn't.

With OE closed, Use the windows search function, to find outbox.dbx and delete it. Then when OE is opened, it will be recreated. When searching, you may need to include 'hidden' files.

As well as the above suggestions also try going to Add/remove programs in the Control Panel, hit the uninstall button and it should show you a "repair" option (as well as add... and roll-back...). This has a fair degree of success with this sort of problem. I presume that I.Explorer works fine (otherwise it would be a broader problem).

Also check that your antivirus program is not interfering (turn off mail checking temporarily). I came across this problem with Norton A/V once (sorted itself out after everything was cleared through the system)

Thanks for all your input!!! The folders.dbx file was "hosed", along with the outbox.dbx file. BTW, going to ADD/Remove Outlook Express in Control Panel and hitting Add/Remove deletes OE 6 (OOPS!). There's no option to "repair".

make sure email server is fine; make sure yuo have pop3 & smtp server correct
