outlook dilemma!

Hello Guys,

I'm currently running Microsoft outlook XP on my machine and the only problem I have with it is that I only get indication that I have received a message when the program is running (open on my task bar). Is there any way I can get round not having the program open on my task bar but still receive emails and notification i.e. envelope icon in my tray when I receive an email?....

Any help would be appreciated.

I beleive that Service Pack 2 has a patch for this. If you install SP2 it should be setup by default. Let me know if it works.

actually disregard last post, i was looking over some stuff and actually you have to have the latest version of Outlook and with that they have a "Minimize to Tray" option in there.

Err... so how could I get the most up to date version of Microsoft outlook? Would that be 2003?

And I could get my hands on that by the luck of the Gods what settings would I have to go through in order to enable the software to function the way I want it to?

Outlook 2003

1. Click on the Outlook icon in the system tray
2. Check "Hide when minimized"
3. Minimize Outlook

Outlook XP

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences

Create a new value with the name of

MinToTray

Data Type: REG_DWORD

Give it a value of 1 (0 to disable MinToTray).

Restart Outlook.

I haven't tried the XP way myself tho so test it first.

If you are using dial-up, you will only get an indication of new mail when you are actually online using O.E.
