Outlook changed from Attachment to Embedded

Outlook changed from Attachment to Embedded for some users.

All our users are able to send and receive attachments with Outlook 97.

Two users for reasons unknown now have any incoming emails with attachments being shown as embedded items.
If they forward these emails to me they appear as attachments to me.

If I turn Word as their email editor off, it shows as attachments. Other people using Word have no issue.

Is there some setting on these clients that may have been triggered and if so, how to change back to attachments?

Look at the settings of the original senders. The ones embedding the attachments are sending in RTF (rich text format), the ones sending attachments are sending in HTML or plain text.

It's not that!

If I get the original email sent to me, it's viewable as an attachment.

The only other thing that might have an effect is some settings in the mail server. Are you using an Exchange server?
