Hey all,

My General Manager needs to be able to receive e-mails with file attachments from one particular person, but for some reason attachments from that one person are removed. He can receive e-mails from that person, and he can receive the exact same attachments if they come from other people. I can't find any settings in Outlook where attachments are blocked from just one person. We're running Outlook 2000, XP Pro, Windows 2k server, Exchange 2000, and GFI's Mail Essentials. I thought maybe my spam filter was killing it, but that e-mail address has been white listed. There are no error messages popping up. Does anyone have any ideas on why e-mail attachments are being blocked from this one important person?

Thanks,

Joe Brouillette

Any ideas? Suggestions? Recommendations?

Thanks,

Anybody? To reiterate, my General Manager can receive e-mails from Person A, but not attachments. BUT, my General Manager CAN receive that same attachment from Person B. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe Brouillette

Hi Joe,

I hate to see an unanswered question but it looks like nobody here knows - I certainly don't (but I don't think OL2000 has the capacity to do as you describe). It may be worth asking in a different forum as it may be more of an e-mail/spam (or Exchange?) issue than an Office one.

One small point - do you know which end of the process (sender or receiver) strips the attachment. You don't say, but I presume other people can receive attachemnts from Person A, it's just one person (your manager) who can't.

Sorry not to be of more help.

Enjoy,
Tony

Joe.

Have you had a look at Tools-Rules just to make sure there isn't anything set up in there to cause your problem.

Ooulook can do and does do this to my constant iritation.
What is the attachement type? JPEG? MDB? GIF? etc
We sometimes have to change the extension name to something eles and then change it back at the recipient because NannySoft doesn't like it
Just this morning it blocked a link.
Normally there is a warning message in the e-mail to give you an idea, was there one in this case?

Regards, Phil.

Gizmo,

Yours is a setting within your exchange server that strips out certain atachemnt types for all recipients, that can be chaged easily.
Have a look at this.

This is common practice for many IT departments. It is for ours. It DOES prevent a LOT of infection due to well meaning but ignorant users. My guess is person A's Exchange server is blocking these attachments before they even leave person A's local network. Have person A try renaming the file extension to ".abc" before sending (as Gizmo suggested). Then rename it back w/ the original ext type when you receive it.
