I believe that to backup email saved in Outlook under Windows XP you back up a .pst file but I can't find it. Does anyone know where it is?

You could try using the search and find functions and look for *.pst files.

The search function was what I used to look for .pst files. I ended up using the outlook import/export function to export a .pst file, which I then backed up. I don't know why there was no .pst file, maybe oulook is set up to leave email on the email server?

In all liklihood you have Windows set to NOT display system/hidden directories, which will result in the search function not finding files within those hidden directories.

To test this, click Start -> My Computer

Then, click Tools -> Folder Options -> click View tab

Find the entries Hidden files and Folders and change to "show". Also un-check the "Hide protected OS files" option.

You should now be able to locate the directory, by default called called:

X: Documents and Settings
<computer.account>
Local Settings
Application Data
Microsoft
Outlook
outlook.pst

Sounds like a good possibility. I won't be able to try it for a few days, but I'll let you know the result when I do.
