Outlook 2K - Move a bunch of messages to another folder? 1

Hi There,

In Outlook 2K SR-1, is there a way I can filter all the messages from a single sender, then cut them from OL and put them all in another folder OUTSIDE OUTLOOK?

Say I've got 30 messages from Joe, and I've got a Folder in Windows called "Joe Mail"

I want to do something along these lines:

1. Right-click a message from Joe and select Find All>Messages from Sender

2. Select All in the Search Dialog and Save As type 'Message' in "Joe Mail"

I get the option to save as Text Only under the File menu, but that loses all the attachments. GRRRR!

Any Ideas?

the only thing that strikes me is setup an archive/personal folder... create a folder with this persons name in there.

Then do a "sender" sort by clicking on the col header. do a click at the top and a shift click at the bottom of their emails and then just click and drag.

Depending on the number of emails it may take a bit to move them.

Thanks Auger282, but I've sussed the quick way now

Start like I did before:

1. Right-click any message from Joe and select Find All>Messages from Sender

2. Select All in the Advanced Search Dialog box and Right click then 'Forward Items'

3. When the new message comes up, select File > Save As.. then name it and Save As Type 'Message Format' in the desired folder, e.g. 'Joe Mail'

When you use the Search function and get the listings up, if you select them all, do you not get the option to 'Move to folder', where you can then just select the folder you want them to go to?

Hi Ken, and yes you do get the option to 'Move to folder..'

However, this problem has arisen because the System Administrator has put a 90 Meg limit on mailbox sizes, which I have now exceeded. The 'Move to folder..' option puts the messages in a folder of my choice in Outlook, and therefore still in my mailbox!

I could open each one, save it as 'Message Format', then delete it, but I have over 200 messages which I'd like to organise so I need a way without spending all week doing it.

I would have thought the mailbox limit would have been against what is held on the Exchange server, which would generally not include personal folders. These can be set up such that they are stored on your hardrive or any other drive that doesn't hold your mailbox quota.

As an example, at work I have a 45MB limit on my mailbox, and if i right click on my mailbox, choose properties, advanced and folder size, I get the size of all the messages in my mailbox only, and not my personal folders. I have a number of personal folders that are stored on another drive and when I move messages from any of the folders in my mailbox (ie inbox, outbox, draft, sent items, deleted items) and then move them to my personal folders, the size of my mailbox reduces correspondingly.

I'd completely ignored the fact that Personal Folders aren't in the server Mailbox area - D'OH!
