My company is running Outlook 2007. One of our users has shown me an interesting problem. When he opens a message and then clicks the Office Button, the menu is missing the normal Save, Save As, Open and Print submenus. I have tried to find any settings related to Office Button customization and cannot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Absolutely nothing happens when I press Alt-F.

hmm thats a keyboard shortcut to open the Office button.
So somethings gone kablooie.
They on latest service pack?
May want to try the repair function.

The user has Word 2007 and Excel 2007 installed and they all exhibit the same behavior in regards to the Office Button.

Thanks,

I'm not aware of anything that can have this effect across applications. Some things can be disabled using Policies but, as far as I know, it's on a per-application basis. Might be worth checking policies anyway.

Does he see the same problem when he starts either Word or Excel in Safe Mode (I'm not sure, off the top of my head, what the effect of Safe Mode is on the Ribbon, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense if it has no impact. And, if he has AddIns causing the problem, it should suppress them.

Enjoy,
Tony

Wait, I just thought of something... I could be wrong, as I may have only seen it once.

If the user's Office Apps were installed under a "trial", and then were not "activated" after the expiration date, then they would still be there, but may not allow any saving of files. At least I think I've seen this with Office 2007..

So, you might want to check Office activation on that PC.

All his Office products have been activated. I'll try to start in Safe Mode and see what happens.

Thanks,

Starting the products in Safe Mode had no effect either.

This is just a shot in the dark. Does the computer with the problem have PCAnywhere installed on it? If so then uninstall it, reboot, and try the Office button again.

Hope this helps.
