Outlook 2003 phone number auto format not working

A nagging problem. When I enter a phone number for a contact, it used to automatically format the phone number like (xxx) xxx-xxxx, and underline it. That stopped working. Now I get excatly what I type like xxxxxxxxxx.

Any ideas what I did? or how to correct?
