Hey all. I have a user here that is trying to click on a link that is sent to him via email. He has access to the file when he goes the long way to get to it, but if he clicks on the link, it says "Cannot find the file <link to file> Make sure the path is correct"

By the way, when he sends me the email, I am able to click it and open it.

Is there a setting that needs changed in his Outlook to allow him to click on links? Thanks for any suggestions.

Is this link pointed to a relative path unique to your desktop?

e.g. let's say your linking to a network folder called "stuff". most users with permissions could find stuff on the network by running "\\servername\stuff"

However if you have mapped this folder as a network drive on your computer it would have a drive letter and be found in your my computer - e.g. "Stuff (G:)".

If this is the case, and links or shortcuts copied from your computer to another computer on the network will not work unless the other computers use the same relative path.

Your options to keep things running smoothly include standardizing the drive lettering and adddressing of mapped drives around the office, or passing off shortcuts and links to network drives as domain shortcuts like "\\servername\sharedfoldername\sharedsubfoldername".
To get a feel for how to do the latter, on your own desktop, go to the start menu and click run. then type "\\computername" (where computername is the name of your computer. It will then list all the shared folders on your computer.

cheers,

Also check which format the Outlook is using.

Go to Tools menu, then Options, Go to the Mail format tab and see where it says compose in this message format.

By changing this on the users machine to something like Rich or Plain text may help.

Cheers

Steve
