Myself and a collegue have both upgraded to Outlook 2002 from Outlook 98 and 2000 respectively, both running on Windows 2000 Pro SP2. Outlook 2002 is connecting to an internal mailer running on Unix which works fine with Outlook 98 & 2000. Also we have patched both copies of Outlook 2002 with Office XP Service Pack 1.

Now the problem, when receiving new emails, occasionally we are getting a prompt appearing asking us to "Enter Network Password" with three fields below it Server, Username and Password. Server field has POP as the entry and Username and Password has the correct account information in them. If you say OK it carries on, but then the message re-appears later.

I have selected the remember password option, which is also on the dialogue but the next time the dialogue appears this option is unchecked as though its not remembering the settings.

Has anyone else come across this problem and knows how to resolve it?

Thanks

hoojdonk,

With outlook open:
Go to tools/services.
Highlight your email profile and go to properties.
On the servers tab below the pop3 profile/smtp profile, and below the account name, password, and check to remember box, there should be "My server requires authentication" check box.

My sendmail server requires this to be checked otherwise I have the same symptoms you describe.

Hope this helps.

Datadan,

Thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately it hasn't resolved the issue, but I do have some futher information.

I have expanded the Send and Recieve Progress Window and when the error occurs there are two identical tasks, one is completed but the other task halts at 60% complete and then brings up the login. Once you OK the login the second task completes its progress and disappears.

I hope this helps point someone in the right direction.

Thanks.

Problem finally resolved by installing Office XP Service Pack 2.
