I have a customer who sends myself and a collegue of mine an attachment. It's normally a word/excel document, we both use outlook 2000. However the attachment comes to my colleague as a .dat file, but to myself as a .doc.

Can anybody help

Thanks

Mark

Is it a winmail.dat file? Have the client try sending the e-mail in Plain Text format. You may have better luck with this format. HTML format would be the second option.

The person sending out the mail is sending the e-mail in plain text format. But we still get the problem, what I don't understand is that the mail to be comes through ok.

Thnks

Try Sending some test attachments from your machine and your friend's machine to see if it comes through.

Normally the problem lies in sending emails as richtext format and not in plain text.

Also does your friend have word installed.

I've sent some tests mail per your suggestions and it works fine. But when the customers sends the files in they arrive as .dat. I have spoke to the customers IT dept and they are using windows messaging and says the email goes out as plain text.

Thanks
