I have a user running Office 2000 Pro, with Outlook 2000. System is a Windows 98. The user did not add/remove any software or hardware, but the system did crash using a different program that Outlook, Outlook was open however.

When the system rebooted, the Outlook won't open. It goes to the splash screen and just hangs there. I've tried to repair the Office, uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled it, all without any success. I moved the PST file, then booted into safe mode and opened a clean PST file, then booted back into normal mode with the same results, it hangs on the splash screen.

I've run the registry clean utility without success as well. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Thanks.

Have you ran a thorough virus scan?
Also, it would be helpful to know what was running at the time of the crash.

Virus scan came up clean. Other Office programs work just fine, as in fact do all the other software on this system.

The system crashed while running Bosanova.

I had a similar problem where everything else worked perfectly except Outlook. Outlook would hang when trying to open. The user had profiles for outlook set up and one of the profiles apparently became corrupted.

The only way to fix it was to re-install Windows as the problem related to a corrupted windows file.

Not sure if that is your problem but if it is you can rename C:\windows\win.com to win.old and reinstall windows over itself to fix any problems.
