Have an issue that bugs me. MS Support staff states that it cannot be done, but I think otherwise.

Clients VPN into network and launch Terminal Services Client. Included apps include Outlook 2000.

Would like to setup offline synch, but MS states that this defeats the purpose of TS2K since this would slow connection to a snail's pace.

But beauty of offline folders is that client can then read/create emails while offline (emails get sent when online).

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

MS do have a point....

If you do want your users to work offline you'll need to install Outlook on the remote PC's, connect via the VPN, configure the Outlook profile and setup offline folders. The first sync can take an age on an old mailbox. Each time your user logs on/off the selected folders will be sync'd. It is possible to run both a TS session and Outlook at the same time.

Hopes this helps.

If I read your requirements right then basic TS is not up to the task, Citrix allows the pass thru of local hard drives but I dont think TS does. Using UNC's may be an option but I am not sure if Outlook supports these as a sync destination.

Obviously the big problem here is that even if you do sync the mailbox locally, how are they going to access it when not running the TS copy of Outlook?
If they are not online then they would be running a locally installed copy of Outlook, etc.

It looks as if MT TechSup got this one right...

You could always force your users to use Outlook Web Access when using the VPN (Terminal Services). It's easy to use, looks like Outlook so the learning curve is not too big and it's web based so not too much traffic. I think Roswin has a point for setting up Offline folders... you'll be giving yourself ALOT of support overhead.
