I have an Outlook 2000 installation on Win98SE which has just gone spooky! The Outlook client now downloads all the nessages it ever received from the mail server .... except the new ones! ie I am building up multiple copies of each email I ever have received at a rate of knots with each "Send/Receive" transaction made.

Any help appreciated for any of the following
1) resolve problem in situ (settings/parameters etc?)
2) save/export/archive all the current info (contacts, mail etc but how/where?)
3) uninstall client on my m/c and re-install but with import of old stuff
or
4) install new client on new machine .... get system back running and then "move" back to original m/c

I find Outlook massively over-complicated and have great difficulty finding my way around it ...... Like many users (?) I only use the basic 1% of the functionality and am just trying to rescue 18 months of email contacts/data - very happy to "knife and fork" it if necessary but am desperate to save the data and "reconstruct" it if at all possible.

Reg(ards;) and thanks for any input offered.

First immediate thought was you have the option selected which says keep mail on the server, after being downloaded. Second thought was you have several pop mail entries created which all point to the same server details ie, same incoming and outgoing settings from your ISP etc.

One possibilty is there is a corrupt file in the mailbox that is stopping the mail behind it being downloaded and this is preventing the 'delete mail' command from the client being issued.

Chris.
Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?
