I have a customer with a recently upgrade Definity rel V12.
They have 2 T-1 circuits for inbound & outbound traffic.

The provider of the T-1's is asking if my switch can be programmed to choose a specific outbound trunk selection order..This is one big happy trunk group of 48 members today.
He wants my 1st choice outbound to be trunks/channels 15 thru 01 then 39 thru 16..Hmmmm
I was always led to believe that the Definity either choose the least used trunk first or would scan the group and pick a idle trunk to go out on...
Any Ideas or info would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks
Rich

mate no problem,
you can administer the trunk groups to suit whatever request you have
are all 48 trunks in one group
if you go into that trunk group it will list members within
then you can see what order they have been enterd and alter it accordingly..like so:

TRUNK GROUP
Administered Members (min/max): xxx/yyy
Total Administered Members: xxx
GROUP MEMBER ASSIGNMENTS
Port Code Sfx Name Night Mode Type Ans Delay
1: 1B1501___ 5211_______ __________ ________ _______ _____
2: 1B1523___ 5212_______ __________ ________ _______ _____
3: 1B1601___ 5213_______ __________ ________ _______ _____
4: 1B1623___ 5214_______ __________ ________ _______ _____
5: 1B1701___ 5215_______ __________ ________ _______ _____

let me know if you require more detailed info

This should help you understand the trunk selection in ISDN trunk groups. This is probably what the provider was asking. I would choose Ascend. The trunks should be selectes 1 through XX.

Trunk Hunt
The switch performs a trunk hunt when searching for available channels within a
facility in an ISDN trunk group. With both ascend and descend, all trunks
within an ISDN trunk group are selected based on this field and without regard to
the order in which trunks are administered within the trunk group. When using
ISDN-BRI interfaces, only cyclical is allowed.
NOTE:
The cyclical option cannot be set if the trunk group using ISDN-PRI
interfaces is to be used for Wideband operations (the Wideband Support
field set to y).
The search can be administered per ISDN-PRI trunk group, but it infers the
direction of search within all ISDN-PRI facilities (or portions of those facilities)
administered within the trunk group.
Valid entries Usage
ascend Enter to enable a linear trunk hunt search from the lowest to
highest numbered channels.
cyclical Enter to enable a circular trunk hunt based on the sequence
the trunks were administered within the trunk group.
descend Enter for a linear trunk hunt search from the highest to lowest
numbered channels.

You cannot program the switch to start in the middle of a trunk group, and go both ways. However, you can change the order of the ports in the trunk group and make the trunk hunt ascending or descending.

In your Example:

Change trunk xx
Enter port number in order you want to select them:
a0315
a0314
.
.
.
a0301
a0339(which ever board/port matches the channel 39 you're referring to.)
a0338
.
.
.
a0316

Change order to ascending, and the system will do what you are asking.

Will post a huge thanks to all for the info...

Can I assume that I will either have to busy out the entire trunk group when I move members around or will I have to remove each member and then build the group the way I want it .

Not sure about the Version 12...I know earlier versions require a busy out or removal first..Was wondering if Avaya gave us a break on that one to allow an easy change.

Any comments?

You might want to busy out the trunk group or the boards because if a channel is busy with a call you will not be able to execute the changes you are trying to make. You might find it easier and maybe even faster to remove the members and put them back in the way you want them.

Many thanks!!! To you all!!
