Hello

I've been doing some research on tagging all outgoing mail from our domain with the little disclaimer at the bottom. Beings I've never done this before, I kind of thought it'd be an easy task.

However, the only steps I'm finding, besides purchasing a 3rd party software, is to use VB and create a new registered dll for our Exchange server. Is the what everyone else does? Is there an easier way? I guess it's no big deal if I have to use the dll I created, but I'm thinking there's just got to be another way of doing this....maybe not?

Here's the MS article explaining the dll:

Read it, tried it, hated it. Hardly anyone uses it, just get yourself a copy of either exclaimer.com of gfi mail essentials (gfi.com).

Hated? wow.. I'll take your word on that. Thanks for the recommendations!

hated" being a bit harsh but it is programming in VB and too much mucking about. Install one of those apps and it works.

yeah.. I went through VB and created the dll and what not, but before I tried running that cscript it hit me; this is kind of a ridiculous fix. So, just thought I'd check.

I've used some of gfi's products in the past. Is there a single tool they offer for this disclaimer or is it part of a package we'd have to purchase?

Disclaimer is in Mail Essentials which does lots of things that you need :)

Exclaimer will allow you to build disclaimers and signatures using AD fields, which is really cool. It also allows you to do rules based disclaimers.

GFI's tool is pretty cool, too, if you want some of the other features it has (which are equally cool).

Exclaimer is what we use here and it works great.

Also try SecurExchange from Nemx.com which is cheaper and like the others can base off an XC DL for who gets what disclaimer.
Not as pretty as Exclaimer but works well. Integrates itself directly into ADUC and ESM on the XC server as well rather than having yet another control panel. Although this does have its good and bad points.

I found GFI very basic and nasty. i.e. The sig support was just badly tagged on to an existing product in my estimation.

There is also another one that will do tagging on a per-domain basis for about $100, but I forget the name.
Check previous threads because I have mentioned it before.

Keep in mind, though, that if your users are doing S/MIME or digital signatures, appending a disclaimer onto a message happens after the digital signature is applied. This will cause messages to be flagged as tampered with.

Hello,

We have a two e-mail domains we support. If we open this up to one of our e-mail domains its likely that other clients we have may want to have their own domain setup rather then using our primary e-mail domain. We are talking 80-90 sites we support. Currently they all use our e-mail server using our primary e-mail domain name except for one site. This one site wants to have a disclaimer added. Keeping in mind that this may become something used for multiple domains if it takes off, each having their own disclaimer.

I looked at the VB scripts for adding sinks and I saw something saying that if you use Outlook to send mail it won't add the disclaimer to the outbound message. <- can anyone verify if that was correct? Or am I not reading it clearly.

Note If you use a MAPI client, such as Microsoft Outlook, to send the e-mail message, the recipient does not receive a modified e-mail message. This is because the e-mail message that is submitted by using MAPI is not in an SMTP format when the e-mail message triggers the SMTP transport event. Therefore, changes that are made by the code of the event are not persisted.

We currently use IHateSpam for spam filtering and it uses an SMTP sink, Is there an conflicts with having multiple sinks or a limit on how many can be added if the VBS script is to be used?

Now a few products have been mentioned here but is there anything that can do this for free that anyone has used or researched.

Mail Essentials -GFI
SecurExchange from Nemx.com
Exclaimer

I've evaluated GFI, I'm going to look at the other two now.

ntinlin - Did you remember those names of the products that do it for $100?

I did.

QS-Disclaimer from pa-software.com

I didn't try it myself since I needed more granularity than it offered. i.e. It only goes down to the domain level, I needed it per user / per distribution list.

Also SMTP Disclaimer from which is £50 for unlimited domains.

Just noticed another granular one called DisclaimIT from netal.com which is licensed on a per user basis.

There is a list of some others here.

Nemx is costing me $1000 because I have 2 SMTP connectors on my outbound server but with my number of users that is still a lot cheaper than any others. Not without its annoyances of course but what product is.

Maybe you should just upgrade to XC2007, I believe you can add disclaimers via a Transport Rule. :-D
