Hi,

I have an Exchange 2003 server currently hosting mailboxes for multiple SMTP domains.

Is there any way I can set up outgoing email so that any mail sent from an @domain1.co.uk account will be sent straight to the internet using DNS, but if the user's address is domain2.co.uk it will be forwarded via the SMTP connector to a smart host on another network?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Stuart

You can do this with the Routing Groups in Systems Manager. Just create a new SMTP Connector, and specify the domain under Address Space.

Under the General Tab, specify the IP Address of the remote SMTP server.

Hi Mike,

I have tried setting it up the way you suggested, but when creating up my additional SMTP connector it only seems to get used if I put the domain of the person I am sending TO in the address space, which would lead me to believe it is routing the messages dependant on the recipients domain. I need the system to route mail differently depending on what one of our SMTP domains a user is sending mail from, as different users have different domains set as their default email address depending on what division of the company they work in.

Am I doing something wrong in the setup?

Thanks,
Stuart

What about if you set it up as mike has mentioned but only allow access to the connector to the domain you want to use it?

Is your AD environment setup for multiple domains? Do you have an Exchange Server configured specifically for Domain2? If so, you might consider using a seperate routing group.

Hi,

Apologies for the delay. Our AD environment only uses one domain and we only have the one Exchange server.

If this is not possible I will just have to change the Exchange server to route all mail direct to the internet - at the moment it is configured to route everything through the smart host but ideally I would only like domain2.co.uk to be sent via the smart host and everything else via the internet.

Thanks,
Stuart
