Hi All,

I've been browsing Microsoft's info for the past hour now and it seems that, with Microsoft Outlook Corporate or Workgroup Edition 2000, you simply can't set up an Out of Office Reply without leaving your pc connected 24/7. Is this correct?

I have a user who uses her laptop as desktop - the Out of Office Reply (via Rules Wizard) works fine as long as she is connected, when the laptop is turned off, so are the Auto-replies.

Without an Exchange Server, is there any chance of enabling the Out of Office Reply whilst not online?

Thanks in advance for any answers...

Jackie

If the rules are on her laptop, and if her laptop is off how will the server know what rules to engage?

To my point, you must engage rules at the server level. What type of server are your running? This can be done with Linux using the vacation rpm. I'm not so sure about exchange server. I would try searching either this forum or google for your email software (not the client side software, but the server-side software) and out of office, or auto-reply.

Good luck

Ahhhh I was afraid of that. Thanks so much for your reply...

Her email works in a funny way, either remotely via a cable connection at home, or in the office via an internet hub providing access. We have shared hosting email ALIAS addresses so hers is one of ten provided by our ISP/email host.

To my knowledge our server (just another pc with shared files on it, OS W2K Pro.

Hmm methinks this has gone over my head. Thanks a lot for clearing my mind! :)

Or simply turn off whatever rules you have turned on. There may be a rule causing a conflict. To isolate problem, turn off any rules and then try and see if the out of office assistant works. When you are connected to outlook and you turn on the "out of office" wizard this is done on the server level unless you have rules setup within here that could be causing conflicts.
