Desperately need help in resolving this.

I have a user whose recieving the the mentioned error everytime he tries to add an attachment to an email.

Tired almost everything to no avail. Repair and reinstall didnt help, neither did upgrading to 2000 Pro version. Looked ard the net for solutions, none found on the attachment topic.

Note : he was having the same error when he tried to open a mail containing an attachment. That was fixed with the "repair" feature done.

Machine Info:
HP NX7000 (notebook)
512MB RAM
Windows XP Pro SP2
MS Office 2000

Probable area of suspicion :
Maybe some thing to do with HP's last memory problem issue a few months back? Checked the website and this particular notebook was claimed not to be in the batch that was affected.

Any help is much appreciated.

You didn't mention anything about available space on the harddrive!

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

I'm having the same issue on an IBM Thinkpad A31p.

512MB RAM
Windows XP Pro SP1
Office 2000
44GB free space

I've increased the size of the VM, reinstalled, repaired, ran windows updates (not SP2) with no fix. I haven't checked for updates to the system from IBM yet though. Ideas?

Sorry abt the delay. Preety busy these few days.

The harddisk has abt 20GB of space. Yes that's the first area I checked - appologies for not mentioning it.

There is a MS knowledgebase with regards to changing the options/mail format/international options - tried that but no go (Seabz420, you might want to have a go at it with your issue, have to do a search man, I fergotten to save the link).

At wits end, any one with any ideas?

I had an error like that, and it turned out that the system actually didn't like name of the attachment. When I took out a special character, it was OK.

Doggammit76,
Gave that a try, no luck. Broke down and installed Outlook 2003 (was my last option) but had to make it look like 2000 so as not to confuse the user. Wwe have not officially launched 2003 yet.

Madawc...thanks for the post dude. I've tried a number of different attachments...still no go. That kinda eliminates a weird character in the name route. :)

Seabz420 ... tough luck man.

Ok I have this observation. I logged on as domain admin and there isnt any problems. Same goes for local admin. My hunch is that theres somethings wrong with the profile workings attached to this particular user. I have had some profile errors happening past week with Windows 2000(not the same problem as this one) and have actually fixed it with the help of a KB article. Something to do with a uchcleaner...something like that, cant remember.

Will find that, give it a shot and post the outcome here.

I had checked out the profile too. Any user that logged in was fine except for the one having trouble. I removed her profile completely from the system and resigned on. Same results. I still suspect the profile, but what...I don't know!

It was called User Profile Hive Cleaner. (do a search, should point you to a KB article)

And it didn't work. Did a format/reinstall of the XP Pro, the system needed it anyways (though I am sure the need doesn't contribute to the problem we facing here)

Sorry guys, I too am still clueless as of what had happened.

Forum Admin, you can close this thead - no solution.
