OS install

Is it possible to find the product key code on a W98 full install disk ? It's a legitimate store bought disk, but the manual, sales receipt, and sleeve aren't available to me where I am presently, (my hard drive crashed and I want to reinstall 98 until I step up to XP someday. thx.

Howdy:

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Key Code is no where to be found on the cd itself.. You MUST get whatever has the key code on it back in order to install..

I didn't think so, but had to ask. I know you can get it from the registry if the system is installed.

Is there a way to get it from Microsoft if I can prove that it is a licensed copy ? (probably a gigantic hassle if it's possible)

Maybe it's XP time !

Go here and download a utility that
reads the product key from your registry (for w95/98/ME systems) .

Read the original post.. The "asker" is doing a clean install as the original hdd has gone to hdd heaven.. There is NO Registry to read from...
