Hi,

I have an Oracle 8i (8.1.7) parallel server and Legato Networker on AIX 4.3.3 . Can someone please suggest me how can I do a backup of the database, using Legato.

Hi Penzk001,

As far as I know, the easiest way to backup you DB is to launch a script before (to stop your DB) and after (to restart your DB) the Legato backup. Then you just need to archive your datafiles.

Nevertheless, It seems that sometimes, the Legato failed. It locks datafiles and you cannot restart your DB: oracle detects datafiles as corrupted. You just need to launch a DB recover command and then restart your DB.

Hope it can help.

Whatever you do ,sorry I can't help with the Legato bit, don't stop the database to do backups. The software has been capable of hot backups for many years, there is no reason to stop the database just to do a backup

I am sure Legato can cope with this method as well

Hot backups..
If your DB is running in archive log mode.

I managed to do the online backup, it was a Legato problem.

Thanks
