I started working with Oracle 9.2 very recently and was trying to alter some parameters through Enterprise Manager consol. I logged in as SYSTEM user and it does allow to change. Then I tried to connect as SYS, but the it asked me to log on as SYSDBA. I do not have any idea of SYSDBA user or role. Please help.

The SYSDBA role is very powerful and should not be used until you fully understand its implications - In 9i the only way to use what were formerly called DBA privs is to log in with the 'as SYSDBA' parameter ( this question should be posted in the 9i forum here as well if you have not done so).
If that is new to you please read the DBA manuals and the Concepts guide before changing any parameters...Oracle is not a good system to 'just try it and see what happens' - it will frustrate you and lead you to the Dark Side ( like moving to SqlServer for instance [wink])
