Oracle 8i on unix w/ MTS

Has anyone been able to get Oracle 8i on unix to be able to work with MTS?

I have the following installed:
oracle client 8.1.7
mdac 2.6 sp1
NT sp6a

I have followed the instructions from MS article Q198893 and included the registry tweak.

I am able to successfully execute DML SQL statements in MTS, but am unable to call a store procedure or a package. I get the generic error -214746259 with the oracle error ora-06512.
