Oracle 8i Enterprise or Standard - the same problem: when CD inserted, it displays menu as usual with
-Install/Deinstall Products
-Explore CD
-Browse Documentation

2nd and 3rd items work fine, but when try to install, the menu disappears, the PC looks busy for some time, then everything calms down and nothing happens.
I have more then plenty of system resources:
processor Celeron 1.7G
RAM 1Gig
HDD 80 Gig.

Anyone has an idea what may be wrong?
Thanks.

If you have a Pentium 4 processor, then you must copy the contents of the Oracle8i CD to your hard drive and delete or rename the two files named symcjit.dll. After doing this, run the installer directly from the hard drive.

Oracle9i OCP

Thank you Mark, I'll give this a try. Meanwhile, a couple of quick questions, please:
1) Are those files needed for something? Should they be restored after?
2) Where can they be found?
3) Two files with the same name?

Thanks.
Vadim.

Thank you Mark. That did the trick. After the installation I've got another problem though. After rebooting the PC, the error windows comeS up with the following message:

java.exe has generated error and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restard the program.
The error log is being generated.

Interesting that this error windows opens in multiple instances, the new one emerges every couple of seconds.

Any idea of what this is and how to fix it?

I found the error to be caused by Oracle HTTP Server. Opening a new thread for it.
