Hi, Folks:

I'm a career changer moving from Accounting to the Oracle world. Currently, I'm preparing to take the first Oracle 8i DBA exam and plan to complete my certification in spring 2003.

I'd like some advice on what side studies would be helpful in the area of operating systems. I've obtained the A+ and Network+ certs but would like to become familiar with issues relevant to the systems which host the Oracle db and applications.

I've been told to get acquainted with Unix, and certainly Windows 2000. But specifically, I'm not sure how to focus my scarce time resources and not get engulfed, as if I were trying to become a systems engineer.

Any pointers here would be greatly appreciated.

Download Personal Oracle9i from Oracle's Technet site and run though all SQL and PL/SQL examples for OCP Test 1. Practice, practice, practice until you are comfortable with the languages.
