oracle 8 and forms 6i compatibility

i want to know is there a compatibility b/w oracle 8 and forms 6i or not? i've tried to install personal oracle 8 with forms 6i. but it doesn't work. plz help me

It depends on meaning of "compatibility" you use. You can not install them into the same home, because htey use different libraries. To be more precize, Forms 6i is compatible with Oracle 8.0.6 . As for running Forms 6i against Oracle 8i database - they're completely compatible.

thanx sem 4 ur reply. i've tried to install oracle 8 with forms6i and made a different home for forms 6i. but when i try to create a service to connect forms with oracle, the test doesn't succeed. It could not able to find listener. shall i've to make custom installation for forms 6i or do something else? plz reply me in detail.

I can't understand this phrase. Is your Oracle instance running? Can you connect to it from sql*plus?

no i'm unable to connect to sqlplus after installing forms 6i. because there is no listener. and when i try to create listener throught net*8, all in vain. i need help desperately.

Installing Forms into separate home can not affect you Oracle 8i installation. If you was able to connect before installing Forms, you should be able to do it after. Or at least Forms itself has nothing to do with it.

i can connect to sql plus 8.0 shipped with oracle 8. but when i install forms 6i to a new home i.e c:\orawin95\6i
then i'm unable to connect to sql plus that is shipped with forms. i've tried to use oracle net8 easy config to access the database created in oracle8 but it is not working.

Try to set environment variable TNS_ADMIN system-wide or in registry under Forms Oracle Home branch to point to 8I_HOME\network\admin or 80_HOME\net80\admin depending on your Oracle version. Then try to start listener by lsnrctl utility.

i've already mentioned that i'm installing forms with oracle8.0.3 not with oracle8i. next how can i set the environment variable TNS_ADMIN system-wide and what is
lsnrctl utility.

Neither exact Oracle version nor OS version were mentioned. As for seting environment variables in your OS (Windows, I think), try to ask some Windows guru.
