I have a readonly tablespace on an Oracle 8.0.6 database which I wish to archive to tape and then delete.

I then wish to be able to restore this to any one of four other databases in the future for querying in required.

What is the baset way to do this?

Copying/restoring the 2GB datafile using ufsdump/ufsrestore only takes a few minutes but how could I then attach this to a database?

I would like to avoid export/import as this takes hours.

Setting up a database link is also not an option as the systems are at seperate locations with only a slow network link.

The 8i transportable tablespace looks like the answer for the future but we are stuck on 8.0.6 at present due to other dependancies.

I don't know of any particularly good solution in Oracle 8.0.6, unless you can get export/import or SQL*Loader to work faster. Have you tried direct path export or direct path load?

Another possibility is replication. You could replicate the existing data to the target databases. Because the data is read only you shouldn't have difficulty with refreshes, and the data would be available on the local servers for user queries.
