ORA-1034 Oracle not available

We had a power outage due to renovations.<br>
The Server was powered down when I arrived in the morning.<br>
I have stop and started the listener and also the services, but I still receive the error &quot;Oracle Not Available&quot;<br>
when I log into SQL Plus. <br>
I am using version 8.0.5. <br>
This database is used only to report from. <br>
Can someone help me get Oracle available, please.

Double check your environment variable $ORACLE_HOME to make sure it is set correctly. Also check your alert.log. It sounds as though the DB had problems coming up. You might need to do a recovery!
