hi

database is 9i on win2k server. i am trying to increase Shared pool and buffer cache values in enterprise manager console. when i click apply, i am getting error message "Applying dynamic parameter(s) failed: ORA-02097: parameter cannot be modified because specified value is invalid ORA-04033: insufficient memory to grow pool"

Total SGA allocated currently it shows 112 MB and memory on the server is 4GB.

thanks in advance.

Hi,

This relates to the maximimum SGA allocated to Oracle which is allocated by ther server when Oracle is started up. You need to change a parameter in Oracle called sga_max_size in either your pfile or spfile.
Within Oracle Enterprise Manager, go into the options: Instance -> Configuration. On the right hand side, you will see above the 'All initialisation parameters.. ' button whether your system is using pfile or spfile.

If you are using a parameter file then change the sga_max_size in your init*.ora file. Else, you can select the 'All initialisation parameters..' to change this parameter and then restart the database. The size to set it to should be sized to how much hits you are currently having. You may want to use advise from Oracle on this by selecting the Memory tab and the 'Advise..' buttons.
