we are due to power the switch down this weekend , would i be in a better position to unplugg the power and reconnect to a live socket ? or should i just power down and leave it off until we power back up ?

Is there a proceedure i should be following

What will be the impact? Is this a office that will be closed or is this a resort/hotel environment that will be open? Do you have it on a ups, that will keep the switch up while you are moving the power?

My only advice is to power down at the pedestal FIRST. You really do not need to do anything else. I would also make sure you have a current back-up, and do a data dump, EDD, right before you shut down.

Hope this helps,

Scott M.

another thing that might come to mine is the install disk and cd along with the keycodes.. if it does not reboot, a back up is a must but it alone will not bring the switch up.. it contains the cust data, not the os. i've never booted unless i had a power reason.. it's not going to make your switch erase problems..
