Option 61c shutdown and power-up

I have to cut in a new UPS for a 61C at midnight tonight. Some guys just throw the breakers and shut it down that way, and it comes up just fine. I've done the same... but never comfortable with it.

But is there a clean or proper way to shut the PBX down and bring it back up?

That is a very good question as i will be in the same boat soon. I know from experience that when it get's the rug pulled out from under it it does not bouce back easily. Kind of gets angry in fact.....hopefully somebody will chime in with a good step by step.

The same 61c went down fine (UPS s**t the bed) and came back up fine.

The step by step of a power fail is

1) The power goes out.

The system is designed to come back up when the power does. I don't think the system likes one method better than another, so I am inclined to throw the breaker.

Of course, backups - and anything that is Windows...those need special attention.

I would power down the cores first, then any shelves. Restoring power would be reverse. Power shelves first then cores.

John... that's usually what I've done... same process - plus a backup before doing anything. OK - just wanted to make sure I didn't do anything to screw things up.

A good tip I've seen is to only use the circuit breakers at the bottom of each cube. Don't touch the DC power units for each shelf as it's common for the switch to fail on the power unit.

There's a good way to look at it: The less you touch, the better. When I was certified on the old blue boxes, there was a specific procedure. I think it has evolved to avoid flipping switches on the PBX when possible.

So the answer is: "Good luck however you do it, there is no right way any more"
