We currently have a fire bar and are converting to a digital phone system. I was wondering if there is an easy way to set up a group call or something similar to ring multiple stations even after one station has picked up.

When any phone on location dials 9911 nine different parties must answer.

In theory, you could "alert" any number of parties that 911 has dialed, but there is no way you would ever want 9 different people on the line when one of them is talking to the 911 center trying to report an emergency.

It is possible the party calling 911 is doing so because one of of the 9 other destinations is in the process of hurting them.

Or, one of those 9 people may interrupt the call or try to talk the 911 center out of dispatching to the premise because _they_ think the original 911 caller had no reason to call 911.

I advise you against trying to originate a 10 person conference call to 911.

Can't you imagine the potential for disaster?

Just alert people when 911 is called, don't try to add them all onto the call. Something like this is suggested:

To answer your question about Group Call. You can add a button to a digital phone or create a dial code that can call up to 20 phones at once. It becomes a clear conference call for any of those that pick up while continuing to ring the sets that have not picked up.

The feature is called "Group Call" and you can read up on it in the Feature Guide - the books found in my signature line.

in my rls 5, group call does not give me a speech path untill all members answer.. that started when we added ip sets..

so i added a few 2008 hf with a single scr and aaa (autoanswer) to several locations... now i dial group call 1111, i can speak to all sets even if no one pickups.. might be worth the $ for 911

I configured a Group call (LD 18) and then a Flexible feature code GRPF with the 4 digit number.(LD 57)

Seems to do the trick!

I give GHTROUT a star on this one. I sat back and read this post and learned about Group Call. That is a feature I have never setup but enjoyed learning about. I think I'll "play" with it on one of my switches.

One of the neat "tech" applications is to set up a Group including all of the Telco Rooms/IDFs/Switch Room, etc. That's a good way to alert every tech or find any tech in a pinch.

I came looking to see if anyone has one with more than 10 users in the group, The book conflicts itself and says 10 first, then says 20, Im sure I'll find out (and post back)when I build one this/next week.. but just curious.

Also, Is there a way to tell who did and did not answer the group call other than a "role call" ?? The book does not say other than to mention that the originators lamp will flash until all callers are present.

I don't remember a way to tell about who is on or not. I suppose you could add an SCN appearance of all the DNs to your phone, if that were critical to know.

Also , remember Group Call cannot include external numbers (or TNs redirected to external numbers). I wish it could.

I am so familiar with Group Call because I was the first to get Nortel to write custom code so that it could be used in a Paging application. I got the attention of the then Chairman then I worked with the R&D group for over a year on it. When I quit that job, Nortel's over-the-speaker Paging efforts died with it. They were developing it to work much like RAN and MUS Broadcast. It would have been very cool.

Does the originator hear any ringing at all before anyone answers? if so then once the people that answered initially have been notified and hang up, will I then hear ringing again from the sets that did not answer??
The reason I ask is the book says certain features cannot be applied on a group call (FNA HTA) being 2 of them... does this mean that a phone will not perform any of the listed features ie: FNA HTA during a group call even though it has that feature in its COS?
So phones that are not answered would continue to ring and ring until the originator disconnects the group call?

When you originate a Group call, you will hear ring until the first phone on the Group Call list answers...then ringback ceases ...but the called phones continue to ring until someone answers them or the call is ended.

Group Call will ring all DNs that are available to ring. If a line is in use, the Group Call wont Hunt to the Hunt number of that line.

Ok..Group call set up was about as easy as it gets in LD 18

you CAN have 20 users 00-19 the book is conflicting and says 10.. then says 20.

Originator will hear ring back only at the beginning of the call..once someone answers, thats it, ring back will not be heard again, regardless if the people that answered hung up and the group call is still ringing the unanswered sets.

The unanswered sets will ring at least 5 minutes..thas as far as I tested.

If you add a user STOR XX = 2 digit member number 00-19
to remove a user..STOR XXX= 3 digit member number 000-019 (space) then <cr> Took me a few tries to get that one.

I tested it and if a memeber is already on call forward the call will follow one step.


I'm having Issues with WTA. The book says
WTA (warning tone allowed) must be in COS of each member..That was done
The book also says a group call to busy sets will either camp on the phone or give a warning tone... but it does not elaborate how to acheive one or the other, I would like warning tones, but im getting camp on.
The tested set has other dn keys has WTA and would normally hunt.
Any suggestions on how to change a group call from camping on busy sets to sending a warning tone ?

Camp-On means the call is queuing for the DN, waiting for it to free up. Generally, when a call is Camped On to you, you get a Warning Tone. If the targets CLS is WTD, you will Camp On, but no warning tone will be heard.

I suspect the tone is in fact being heard....it comes through your handset/ear, not the speaker.

To get the Camped On call, simply hang up and your phone rings.

The 10 or 20 statement has to do with old Option11 vs. any large system. Option11's used to have a variety of size limitations, suck as number of key appearances, etc.

Interesting, I hadnt thought (duh) that the tone would only come through the handset, and yes I received 3 tone bursts while on the handset
