Does anyone know much about Opportunistic Locking? We run a large ACT database and it’s always been dog slow. The database and accompanying files reside on a W2K SP4 server while the workstations are all XP SP2. Act says that we should turn off Opportunistic Locking on the server and workstations but I’m not sure what effect this will have on other services. The server is also a DC and file server. I’ve tried moving the ACT database to other servers, but it never seems to make much difference. Some of the info I find out about ‘Opportunistic Locking’ seems to refer to pre W2K SP2 and 9x OS’s only. Does anybody actually know?

Thanks,

John

I've had to turn OpLocks off on a couple of client servers, and that made a big difference in the application speed. I've had not other problems associated with turning it off.

I've dealt with several database applications that suggested turning off Oplocks on Win2K Servers. I've had generally good results - improvements in the application and no related problems on the servers.
