I was told that a new version of the pix 506 after 7.0 will let you manage the firewall through a gui web based interface.

For someone who knows nothing about firewalls and still has to call third parties out to work on them would them help me out much?

Sorry the new version 7.0 does not support the 506, the plan is that it will be supported in 7.1 released later this year (hopefully).
There is however still the PDM gui which is kinda alright, however i wouldn't mess with such an important device as your firewall if you have no knowledge of basic firewalling/nat/routing principles.
