I was just asked to rescue an Access97 system that when I go in through the front door shows the above error message but then loads the first form. When I go around the Start routine to the database window I get nothing but empty windows. Nothing in tables, even though I know there are about 20 tables, and when I go to the Queries tab I get nothing but a message ' " isn't an index in the Table. Look in the index collection of the Tabledef object to determine the valid index names.' Me thinks that the database is corrupted and Access isn't "seeing" it. Is this so and what do I do about it?
Tanks Much.

Have you checked to see if the tables and other objects are hidden? You can select an option to show hidden objects. Open Tools | Options on the main menu and select Show Hidden Objects. You can then unset the Hidden property on objects.

You may be able to repair the database if it is corrupted. Make a backup and select Tools | Database Utilities | Repair Database.

If that doesn't work, download the JetCOmp utility from Microsoft. It may be able to repair the database.

Thanks

Actually I had already tried the Repair utility without success. Just before I went out to get the COmp utility I tried compacting first and then repairing. That worked. I'm sure I'll need the COmp utility sometime.
