I have a problem with opening tiff images in quark 4.0. It just happened out of the blue. I have tried restarting the computer, reinstalling quark. The images are scanned as 300 dpi(no changes has been made to the setting in the scanning process), and worked in Photoshop as CMYK and Grayscale files before saving them as tiff files. But when I tried to "get picture" in quark, in the window where you can preview the images, there is no preview shown. And when I select the tiff image, the error message is "Cannot read a TIFF file with this format (259,8). [69]" Images saved as photoshop eps and jpeg still work in quark. Can someone suggest a way of solving the problem?

Are you saving layered TIFF files from Photoshop? What options are set when you save TIF files from Photoshop?

The tiff files are not layered. The options are set as image compression: ZIP and byte order: Mac.
Is there anything else that I might have set accidently?

Try compression None or LZW and see if that helps.

Thank you very much. It works when compression None or LZW is used. However, the files will be large.
By the way, if I were to send out the files to printers, they wouldn't have any problem in reading/printing the files, would they?
Once again, thanks.

Printers will have the same problems you encounter if you continue to place ZIP-compressed TIFF files. They could not place a TIFF any better than you.
