Opening PDF causes reboot

When using Microsoft Outlook 2000, sometimes on opening a PDF attachment, the screen goes black and the PC reboots. The OS is Win98.

Can anyone tell me what might be causing this?

Does it only happen when opening a pdf attachment within Outlook? If you save the attachment first, does it still reboot?

It's the bosses computer so of course I'm not there to witness it. It happens when she tries to open an email attachment, usually a PDF. It believe it can be saved and then opened in Adobe Reader.
