Hi,

I have two problems, any help would be much appreciated. I have been trying to solve these for ages but can't seem to.

1) I can't open links within THREADS on this site or other sites. It means i can't go to the possible solutions in other sites without typing the whole link out in my address bar.

2) I can't seem to copy from websites and paste into anywhere else. The paste seems to be greyed out. For e.g. i can't fopy from a website to a word document even text. Or i cant copy from one website to another, such as copy an email address from one site and try copying and pasting it into my webmail to send an email to that person.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Two thoughts:

One, do the following steps with the Start button, Run feature:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

If you see an error message, ignore it.

Second, Go to the Windows Update site and apply the newest set of IE Cumulative Updates. Anything from April on should fix the issue as well. The current release is October, 2003.

bcastner,

I will try this. I hope it works. I have been reading this forum thoroughly today, in a desperate attempt to solve this issue. On nearly every thread I seem to see a reply from yourself. How/Where do you find out that you need to run these .dll files from the run command. It is completley alien to me how someone can have so much knowledge

It is completely alien to me too.

Seriously,

I support lots of workstations since way, way back.
I have a photographic memory, with nearly complete recall of anything I have ever read.
I have stored lots of links and other things that seemed to me to address issues both common and odd.
I have learned more than I have helped people here. These computers never cease to amaze me in how much trouble they can cause.
In my youth I spent a lot of time in airplanes, reading books on assembly language, processor instructions, and programming.
I have a reasonably good "feel" for what is happening, and perhaps what is wrong. You get the same sense from experienced physicians.

In your specific case, the cut and paste is a known issue with IE 6.1, and was corrected with later Service Packs. The registration issue for the failure of your ability to "hyperlink" works 75% of the time or better in most cases. The combination of the Cumulative Update and a re-registration of at least urlmon.dll should sort things for you.

I should add the last thing: Good questions, and good answers from others. I stand, literally, on the shoulders of Giants, here and in other Forums.

And Google.

Hope it sorts your issue.

Bill,

anyone posessing so much knowledge amazes me. What is your internet/network security like, an area I would definatley like to get into. Can you recommend any sites/books that deal with learning this area.
