When I select an excel file from the most recently used documents list (Start | Documents) or by double clicking in explorer the spreadsheet opens, however if the file name contains spaces (availing of long file naming) I get an error message.
So, for example, if I attempt to open the file “some long named file.xls” from the MRU or explorer I get the following message
“some.xls could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.
If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the file menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted.”
This message is repeated for “long.xls”, “named.xls” and “file.xls” before continuing to open the spreadsheet.
This is only happening in Excel. I suspect that it may have to do with file associations and can be remedied through a registry edit. I just don’t know where to look in the registry.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom.
