I had a Database on a Zip Disk, which I entered data into and now when I try to open the DB from the Zip Disk I get the msg:

"The Microsoft Jet Database engine cannot open the file xxx.mdb it is allready opened exclusivley by another user or you need permision to view its data"

I have tried Compacting and Repairing the Database, this did not work.

If I try to move the DB of the Zip Disc onto my hard drive I get the Error msg: "Currently in Use" - No Other users have access to the zip disc and no applications are open on my machine.

The Zip disc is not Write-Protected.

There is no .ldb file on the zip disc

Any Ideas???

I has exactly the same problem last week and haven't resolved it yet. If you get a resolution, please let me know.

Thanks

I've had similar problems before, not guaranteeing that any of these will work, but you could try the following:

1. I'm assuming that your compact and repair worked OK - if not try using the Jetcomp Utility (downloadable from the Microsoft Developers Website) - let me know if you need the URL. I've heard talk in this and other forums that repairing is no longer recommended by Microsoft, so compacting on its' own may be of more use.

2. Create a new db and try importing the objects from your old db into it

3. Try decompiling your db - create a shortcut to it and place the following in the Target line (replacing the placeholders as necessary):

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\msaccess.exe" "C:\YourDatabaseDirectory\YourDatabase.mdb" /decompile

Try renaming the .ldb file next to the mdb file and see if that cures your problem.

Thanks for your help Muttley, but still no luck...

Could you give me the url to the Jetcomp Utility (downloadable from the Microsoft Developers Website)

Thanks
