Opening another Database

Is it possible to open a second database while working in the first one?

I am using linked tables from the second Db to obtain some information. It may happen that the record I want from the second database has not been entered yet. I want to give my users the capability of opening the second database and enterering the new record and, on close, return to the original database. (Probably trigger it from an On Not In List Event.)

I considered copying the forms, etc but that entails a number of forms, subforms and queries plus when changes are made in one Db, etc.

I've tried help and ended up more confused than when I started and I've looked here for any relevant FAQs with no success.

If someone could give me a tip on how to code this I would be most grateful.

Larry,
You should be able to enter data via a form that is based off of your second databases tables from within the first database. Opening a second incident of Access would be required to "access" another database and is not really adviseable.
You might try having the "form wizard" build you a form based off of the linked databases' table. Gord

I think you are right. I was just trying to find a way to avoid having to create additional forms.

Larry, Don't forget you can go to the database window, select a form, select copy, then paste as "another form name". You may then change this new forms Record Source to point to the other table. Fast & easy! Gord

I considered that, but the forms are based on queries and are fairly complex (subforms etc). I would have to bring in all of that.

As I said in my last post, when a user finds that an Agency or an Agency Contact is not in the combo box she will only have minimal info.

It will probably be easier for me to set up a quick and dirty data entry form to populate a limited number of fields just to allow her to continue. I'll also write those data to a "New" table and set up some kind of prompt to remind someone (?) that the balance of the info needs to be entered.

Kind of klunky but I guess that's what you get when you try to draw data from a Db designed for another purpose.

Not all so bad. I suspect you could have an append query dump your new data back to the original table when you close the data entry form.
