Opening an excel workbook via an icon

Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious......

I have an icon and an excel spreadsheet which I want to install on a client's computer. The icon contains our logo, so when the icon is clicked I want to it to open the spreadsheet. Is there a way of doing this without creating a shortcut to the spreadsheet and changing the icon in the properties of the shortcut.

I will be emailing the spreadsheet to the client, so if possible would want to change the icon of the spreadsheet, rather than send them both the icon and spreadsheet and have to explain they need to create a shortcut and change it manually!!
