opening a Word merge document

Is there a way to open a Word document that is used in a merge, just to edit it and not have the merge automatically happen when the document is open? I'm using an Access table for the data source.

The merge should not automatically occur unless there is macro code that makes it occur. If so, just disable macros when you open the file. Anne Troy
