Hi

I am using Computer Management from a XP Pro machine to connect to our Win 2k Servers to view what files are open:

Computer Mgt | Shared Folders | Open Files

When I connect with an account with Domain Admin rights I get access denied.

If I put that account into the Built in \ Administrator group it can view the open files no problem.

The server it can not access is the DC, it can access the other servers fine.

We have 1 Group policy for the DCs and one for the other Servers, I have compared the 2 policys but can not see a problem.

Do you know what permissions are needed to view open files through computer management?

Thanks

and if you add the domainadmins group to builtin\Administrators ?

Hi,

The problem we have is caused by Domain Admins not being part of built in \ admins however as per ADGod and AfterTaf have pointed out.

However my Manager does not want Domain Admins to be part of Built In \ Admins so I can not resolve it that way.

Does anyone know what permissions need setting where to enable a Domain Admin thats not part of the Built in admins to look at what files are open etc?

Thanks

Hi ADGod,

I think I have found a compromise. I have added the users into Builtin \ Server Opps. This grants them the permissions to backup files etc which seems to do the job without giving them all out access to the server.

Thanks for your help

Neil
