After our local network got hit by the Nimda virus, any time I go to open a file via an OPEN dialog box, the folders and files are not sorted. If I need to sort them (always!), I have to right-click and do an ARRANGE ICONS. What a pain?
Is there a registry setting I need to look at? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hi GerryWhite

I too had a bout with Nimda..

Have you run FixNimda.exe, its free from Symantec?
Also a beta version of HTML file fixer from MooSoft, it hangs at end of run but might be worth your time. Its called "Fixfiles_beta".

Normally to set sort order:

1.Right-click Start, click Explore, and then click drive C.
2.On the View menu, click Details.
3.Click the Name column to sort items by name, press and hold down the CTRL key, and then quit Windows Explorer by 4.clicking Close in the upper-right corner of the screen.
5.Release the CTRL key.
6.Restart your computer

Good Luck

Hello, GerryWhite.

Do the 3-step ritual:
[1] Explorer, goto a common folder.
[2] Arrange the icons on the right panel as you have done.
[3] Hold down ctrl + Mouse click on the top-right close button of the Explorer.
